Floyd Mayweather Possibly Signs With UFC
Quote:
This news is exclusive to The Wrestling Heraldwrestlingherald.com and Wrestling Edge wrestling-edge.com. Usually I wouldn't post MMA news here but considering Mayweather's tie-in with WWE and the magnitude of this announcement I figured i'd post this:
I just got off the phone with a source very close to the situation and I am told that Floyd Mayweather and his representatives have been in contact with UFC's Dana White as late as Wednesday but "possibly as late as last night" according to the source.
UFC is expected to make several announcements on Thursday.
1) Anderson Silva will be fighting in the light heavyweight class
2) Chuck Liddell will fight in the main event on the September pay-per-view in Atlanta
However, the big announcement being rumored is that Floyd Mayweather will be signing or has signed with UFC. For those that did not read our last update, Mayweather announced his retirement from boxing. If this signing turns out to be the case this would be a huge coup for UFC as it would surely attract some of the boxing fans that have not given UFC a chance.
Mayweather recently was part of WrestleMania XXIV in Orlando where he participated in a match against Paul "Big Show" White. Mayweather was open to do a rematch but now with the UFC deal that looks to be off the books.

HUGE EXCLUSIVE: Floyd Mayweather Signs With UFC
Holly shit, if this is true then it's huge for the UFC and MMA as a whole. I guess this is the big announcemen Dana White was talking about in that interview.
Silva in the light heavyweight division should be sick as well.

Woah.
Can't say I'm too surprised he's going to MMA in general, as he's been saying that for awhile. But for boxing's biggest star to go directly to MMA's biggest company, I don't know, that's just surprising to me. I would've thought he would start out on some smaller shows, gain some experience, etc. Because we all know there's no 'easy fights' left in the UFC.

They'll just throw him a few cans with weak ground game for him to own.

I'm assuming he'd be fighting at Lightweight, which is the most talented division currently in the UFC, so good luck finding complete cans.

Good point but I bet there are still a few cans left from the roster trim up.

That makes sense, but it's just not possible.
Mayweather is too big for the smaller companies. UFC is the only company big enough for him. Additionally, I think it would have been stupid for White to let him sign on elsewhere. You know he's going to bring ratings, press, and lots of coverage. The UFC is going to get huge exposure from this. Even if he busts, and doesn't win a fight...the UFC is getting made.
Mayweather is a lot more credible than Slice.
Oh, this is BS...

"MediaTakeOut.com has just caught word of an EARTH SHAKING rumor. According to a number of sources within the UFC, Floyd Mayweather is set to be the first big name boxer to sign on as a mixed martial arts fighter.
One UFC insider, who asked to remain nameless, told MediaTakeOut.com that the reported deal will net Floyd more than $200 million in cash and equity in the UFC. Word is that the deal will be announced at a press conference set for this Thursday

200 million?

If he does sign he would be a sick fighter if he learned some ground game. As Diesel has already said it will be hard finding a can to feed Floyd with.
If THE SPIDER moves up it will be great. Some of the fights that can be had will be fucking awesome. Maybe Liddell's opponent is Anderson Silva.

It would be smart for Dana White to sign him. I have not watched any UFC or MMA matches, but if Mayweather signed with UFC, then I would definitely watch. 200 million is .

rofl @ calling Big Show "Paul White."
This is pretty interesting actually. Does anyone think he'd do well?
