Just a few basic rules to keep a watch for. This thread will remain open for any questions or thoughts you have.

Basic Rules/Guides

Divisions are set up in three categories:

- Wrestling (self explanatory, covering all companies)
- Non-Wrestling (varying from politics, moral issues, religion, sport, music, movies etc.)
- MMA (a future division set to be officially annouced soon)

When signing up, please specify the division you wish to enter. Please also note if there are any particular topics you would rather not debate (e.g. if you chose Non-Wrestling but you’re not a big sports follower you can request to be excluded from sporting topics). This is no guarantee that you’ll be completely excluded but it gives us an idea of what you’d like to participate in.

Once each card and topics are posted, you will have until the allocated date to hand in your debate (generally a week but this can vary). Should you need an extension, PM i$e, DDMac, The Lady Killer, MrMonty or Aussie before the due date.


Expectations

We don’t expect award winning debates and we don’t expect grammar perfect pieces of work. All we ask is that you try. If you find a topic is complicated or you have trouble understanding, you’re more than welcome to ask one of us to explain it more clearly. Or Google your topic and see what comes up. There’s no need to apologise for the standard of your debate. If you gave it your best then we applaud you.

We also understand that people have other priorities in life such as work, sport etc. which is why we give everyone a week to have their debate posted. Because of this, excuses like “I have work” or “I was busy” aren’t going to fly with us. When you sign up we expect you to commit. If you know you’ll never have time for this, don’t sign up.


‘Isaac’s Rule’

If your debate is not handed in by the specified date, without notifying TDL staff prior to the date (which means not leaving it until the last couple of hours), you will be classed as a ‘No Show’ and will forfeit your debate. No Show an event and Isaac has the pleasure of removing you as a participant (hence the rule name). 9 times out of 10 this will be a permanent removal.

I think that should be a rule regarding 'debate aids'.

And not I'm talking about the disease. I'm referring to quotes, stats, graphs, etc.

I think we should limit this to 1 or 2 per debate.

I don't see the need tbh. Quotes count for bugger all in my opinion. Simply because someone who might be considered "esteemed" in a particular field has an opinion, that gives the debater no points when I'm judging it. It entirely comes down to how the debater interprets the facts or figures, and how they project their own argument onto it. I see where you are coming from, but facts alone don't tell a story. That's up to the individual.

You can have all the facts, graphs and stats in the world and be destroyed by logic and persuasion.

Just throwing my opinion out there...I'm extremely open to other opinions on the matter
