A WEEKLY MSN DISSCUSION COVERING MIXED MARTIAL ARTS TOPICS. AWESOME RIT.

WEEK ONE: THE BEST MMA DVD'S ON PLANET EARTH.
------------------------
------------------------
Diesel says:
So I rewatched UFC 52 yesterday with one of my buds when he was over.
Diesel says:
Pretty sure that'll go down as one of the greatest UFC events easily, and arguably one of the best events ever.
i$e says:
It's defiantly a must buy. That card is loaded.
i$e says:
So many sumbissions on that DVD.
Diesel says:
The Hughes/Trigg 2 fight may have the most action, drama, and excitement ever put into a one rounder.
Diesel says:
Hard to top that in just 5 minutes.
i$e says:
I think it's within my top three fights ever actually.
i$e says:
You've mentioned 52. If you were stranded on an island, which five UFC events would you take with you? A 'Diesel' powered DVD Player would be supplied.
Diesel says:
Good question. I'd definitely back UFC 52, UFC 59, UFC 66, UFC 68, and UFC 47. One could survive off entertainment with those 5 events for a good month or two.
Diesel says:
How about you 'i$e'?
i$e says:
UFC exclusive? 47, 68, 51 for sure. Then i'd take 76, because it was one of the best in recent memory. I loved that event, but it's kind of a wild card because it's so fresh. My must take is 63. Gurgel is on it, and Hughes/Penn delivers every time I watch it.
i$e says:
68 seems to be a common theme. I guess we can go ahead and tell anyone who doesn't have it that they should buy it straight away, right?
Diesel says::
Yup, and good choice with 63, I actually almost forgot about that event while making my choices. That card proves why having all lightweights, welterweight, and middleweights for the most part...is awesome.
Diesel says:
Eddie Sanchez vs. Some dude I remember being the only heavyweight tilt, and even that delivered a big finish.
i$e says:
Neto?
Diesel says:
Probably.
Diesel says:
Anyway, let's move onto the greatness known as 'PRIDE' FC
Diesel says:
Top 5 events availabe on digital video disc?
i$e says:
PRIDE? Gurgel's personal shopping channel?
i$e says:
Fill me in plz.
Diesel says:
PRIDE FC was a mixed martial arts organization ran by Dreams Stage Entertainment. It began in 1997 and was purchased by the UFC, also known as the Ultimate Fighting Championship, in 2007. For the most part, PRIDE took place in the land of Japan. It was arguably the top mixed martial arts platform offered while it was active.
Diesel says:
imho.
i$e says:
Ah, PRIDE. I remember now.
i$e says:
Might as well go ahead and say the Middleweight GrandPrix 2003.
Diesel says:
Two top notch events. It's even better now how you're able to go out right now and purchase the entire tournament in one bundle.
Diesel says:
Some of the best $30 I ever spent imo.
i$e says:
Final Conflict was rare as fuck. Good move on that re-release.
i$e says:
PRIDE 10: Return Of The Warriors.
Diesel says:
Easily the pick of the litter if you're looking for the older PRIDE events.
Diesel says:
Kazushi Sakuraba, one of the sport's greatest of all time, at his best
i$e says:
Because he's Asian? Sticking up for your brother?
Diesel says:
He's actually my dad.
Diesel says:
But same shit.
Diesel says:
Anyway, thoughts on the event known as Shockwave 2004?
i$e says:
It's a great event, but I was kinda dissapointed with the main event.
i$e says:
Having said that, you only have to look at the names on the card to justify a purchase.
Diesel says:
Truth.
Diesel says:
Shockwave 2005? Shockwave 2006?
i$e says:
2006 has the rather awesome Hunt/Fedor fight.
Diesel says:
And the chick popping her cherry from screaming Gomi so loud in the fight card introduction.
i$e says:
I'd take Bushido 9 and PRIDE 28 over both events though.
Diesel says:
Fair.
i$e says:
Final Conflict 2005 is a must but.
Diesel says:
Bushdio 9 is probably the best value overall that you'll get. EVERY fight is good, and with nothing but really light fighters on the card, you can expect non-stop action.
Diesel says:
I say if you purchase FC 2005, might as well pick up the entire 2005 tournament.
i$e says:
Sounds reasonable.
i$e says:
If I had the pick from them though, it'll be FC every time.
i$e says:
On the subject on Bushido, I'd recomment the box set for them all.
i$e says::
The red card rule ensures great fights, and the Camp fights are a great idea.
Diesel says:
Team Chute Boxe was deadly.
Diesel says:
How about this; if you were to recommend 3 PRIDE events to a fan who's new to PRIDE but wants to learn....what would you say?
i$e says:
Tough question.
i$e says:
Do I go for quality of event or name value?
Diesel says:
If possible, both. Remember, new fans automatically look for names they're familiar with.
i$e says:
Alright.
i$e says:
Final Conflict 2003. Not only an amazing event, but you've got Liddell/Rampage on there to get you started if you've only watched UFC. Obviously Wanderlei/Jackson too, so you'll see what Silva is all about. Really good because these are the top guys in the LHW division in the UFC, so it's awesome AND relevant.
Diesel says:
Good choice. That's one..
i$e says:
Bushido 9. Hardly anyone that the average UFC fan will see, minus Henderson. But can you name me a better event?
i$e says:
Pure fans of fighting should do themselves a favour, overlook the names, and watch it.
Diesel says:
Agreed. If I could give one tip to newer fans out there; don't always go for name factor. Don't always look for the events with someone like say Chuck Liddell on there. Expand your horizon of MMA knowledge, because you could be missing a lot of great action on the events that say Chuck Liddell isn't on.
i$e says:
Good point.
i$e says:
Third is a big choice. It could either be PRIDE 10 because fans who want to know about PRIDE should watch this, it's like the golden classic from the dark ages. But then again some people prefer to see current fighters, in which case I'd go with Final Conflict 2005, but like you said, it's better to get the full tounaments (Shockwave, Total Elimination, Final Conflict).
i$e says:
You know I'm going to ask you the same question now. Top 3 PRIDE events or fake fan.
Diesel says:
Shockwave 2004 is nearing the top of my list, definitely. I watch this event over and over, and I still enjoy it. While the main event, Fedor vs. Nog, isn't the barn burner their first fight was...it was still a battle between the two best heavyweight fighters at the time. The rest of the card is filled with the likes of Mirko Cro Cop, Wanderlei Silva, Mark Hunt, Dan Henderson, Yuki Kondo, etc.
Diesel says:
Familiar names to the MMA world, and very familiar names to the PRIDE world. Win win situation.
i$e says:
I can live with that.
Diesel says:
Shockwave 2005 is another awesome show. I'm pretty sure 3 titles, yes 3 titles, are on the line here. Silva/Arona for the middleweight title, Hendo/Bustmante for the Bushido welterweight title, and Gomi/Sakurai for the Bushido lightweight title. Hard to top that really. Plus Mirko Cro Cop vs. Mark Hunt is a clash for the ages between two of the most feared K-1 level strikers in the world.
Diesel says:
Oh yeah, my dad, Kazushi Sakuraba, fights there too.
i$e says:
That DVD is sitting just to my right.
i$e says:
Under it is a highly unapprechiated event; PRIDE 25: Body Blow
Diesel says:
I was actually just about to mention that fight; that's the event where Fedor shows human instincts when he's glocked by Fujita right?
i$e says:
Nog/Fedor!
Diesel says:
Oh, my bad. I got confused, PRIDE 26: Bad To The Bone is the event I was trying to mention.
Diesel says:
Highly underlooked event, another event to look into.
i$e says:
It also has Anderson Silva's amazing entrance
i$e says:
Diesel says:
lmao
i$e says:
Good choices. We've covered a lot. I just want to mention the K1 2003 Grandprix in Las Vegas. Great show.
i$e says:
But yeah, the big one. If you could recommend three MMA events to a fan of any level, what would they be for you?
i$e says:
Thats anything, UFC, PRIDE, K1, Rings, Pancrase, BODOG (lolz)
Diesel says:
PRIDE Shockwave 2004, UFC 52, and Bushido 9. If you could get a hold of these three events....holy shit, you're in for a treat.
Diesel says:
Get some of this material for Christmas, treat yourself.
i$e says:
Excellent events.
i$e says:
I'm going with PRIDE Final Conflict 2003, PRIDE Bushido 9 and UFC 68 myself.
i$e says:
Any objections?
Diesel says:
I object Cro Cop losing on FC 2003 of course, since I'm just a blind mark for him. But other than that, top notch shit.
i$e says:
5 of the best.
Diesel says:
Hopefully this helps some of you guys out. Feel more than welcome to comment, and pitch in some ideas if you want.
Diesel says:
Until next time....I'm the Asian here.
i$e says:
Damn, we need a name for this shit. Hook me up.
Diesel says:
Something catchy
Diesel says:
hmmm
Diesel says:
The Di$el Dungeon?
Diesel says:
loz
Diesel says:
iono
i$e says:
You're embarrasing.
Diesel says:
fu
i$e says:
JORGE GURGEL?
Diesel says:
he'd sue us for copyright, and take all our shirts
Diesel says:
next idea plz
i$e says:
"Asian + UK. Sticky Please" MMA Roundtable Discussion - Week One; Must Buy DVD's?
Diesel says:
A little long
Diesel says:
but good
i$e says:
Then it's a deal. Until next week, we've been awesome. I hope you made it this far to read. I'm off to dream about Matt Serra.
