WEEK THREE: WE WISH YOU A MERRY UFC 79!
------------------------
------------------------
i$e says:
Oh, hey there Asian. 'Christmas Roundtable'? UFC 79 Discussion?
Diesel says:
'Sokoudjou'
Diesel says:
That means yes.
i$e says:
Excellent. I guess this will be the last 'Roundtable' of 2007. We'd better make it stellar.
Diesel says:
Who needs New Years? We're going to tear the walls down right now.
i$e says:
Nice cliche. Lets move on. I think it's safe to assume that UFC 79 is the card of the year, and maybe the best card ever. Thoughts on that?
Diesel says:
On paper, it's pretty difficult to argue. What more can you ask for than the most anticipated fight ever, the rubber match between GSP/Hughes, and the debut of new PRIDE superstar Soko?
Diesel says:
'PRIDE', btw.
i$e says:
If it delivers, this is going to make a LOT of new fans.
Diesel says:
I'm calling it now, Sokoudjou will be in MetalX's awesome 'top 12 fighters' list by New Years if he loses.
i$e says:
Speaking of that, I noticed Thiago Silva crept onto the list after he beat a certain 'favourite' of his, who seems to have dissapeared from the list entirely.
Diesel says:
By logic, you'd THINK he'd like Houston even more.
i$e says:
HOUSTON ALEXANDER IS FOR REAL.
Diesel says:
Enough of that jobber though.
i$e says:
Yeah, lets move on.
Diesel says:
Chuck/Silva - is it still the biggest fight ever on paper?
i$e says:
Three years in the making, both big money draws, a ton of hype and MASSIVE implications for both the fighters and the division? It has to be.
Diesel says:
Do you believe the two losses both fighters suffered leading to this fight, tarnish the potential impact this fight will have on the MMA world?
i$e says:
Not at all. If anything, it improves the fight as you have two guys here looking to proove that they've still got it in 2007. It's almost the same sort of hype you get when you have two undefeated guys fighting, except this fight carries far bigger impact.
Diesel says:
That's my view on it as well. It's almost more exciting now, since it's really 'do or die' pretty much. And with the stage of MMA at an all time high right now, the buzz for it will be exceptional.
i$e says:
In a way I almost hope Wanderlei wins this fight. I'm getting tired of people writing PRIDE off and questioning the fighters just because they've got off to a shaky start in the UFC.
Diesel says:
Honestly, it's hard for me to say WHO I want exactly to win, yanno? How can you really say when you match the two best light heavyweights ever in the sport, in one big super-fight?
Diesel says:
A solid case can be made for both.
i$e says:
You consider Chuck one of the top two ever?
Diesel says:
Him and Wanderlei both RULED the light heavyweight division in both worlds with a solid iron fist. I'd say Randy Couture is up there for one of the best light heavyweights of all time as well, but I personally think he made more of an impact as heavyweight.
Diesel says:
Strictly LHW, it's definitely Wanderlei and Chuck's world.
i$e says:
I think you're overlooking someone.
Diesel says:
Who?
i$e says:
'Sugar' Rashad Evans
Diesel says:
i$e says:
Seriously though, you're right. 'Superfight' is the correct term, and I expect it will deliver. But shit, look at the other main event. Hughes/GSP. Thats Matt Hughes and George St. Pierre. This is going to be a fucking CLASSIC.
Diesel says:
It's even more amazing considering it's going to be a rubber match. That just adds SO much to a fight, I believe.
i$e says:
It's for a title too.
i$e says:
Nobody will take it away from my Serra though.
Diesel says:
He has that potential to be a young Frank Mir.
Diesel says:
'Unbreakable'
i$e says:
Any chance you see this outshining Chuck/Wandy?
Diesel says:
Personally, I don't think so.
Diesel says:
Whenever you have Chuck Liddell in the arena, you know you're in for an electric fight since the crowd just goes ape-shit for him no matter what. A hot crowd adds a lot for me.
i$e says:
I tend to agree.
Diesel says:
Plus Liddell's fighting for his career here, against arguably the one fighter who can be pitted better against him.
i$e says:
I said a while ago, that Chuck quits if he gets dominated.
Diesel says:
Does that mean the fans won't eat up GSP/Hughes? Absolutely not. I just think this will be the shiner of the night.
Diesel says:
Fuck, two amazing main events on one card.
Diesel says:
I'm so pumped.
i$e says:
I'm ever so slightly more hyped for 79 than the event I'm actually going to. Thats how good it is.
Diesel says:
The event you're going to is great in its own right.
Diesel says:
But that's for another time to discuss.
i$e says:
That'll be on the next 'Roundtable'
Diesel says:
'Roundtable'
i$e says:
'Roundtable'
Diesel says:
Sokoudjou - will his hand be raised once again?
i$e says:
I fully expect that. This guy has the potential to be the future of the division.
i$e says:
He's what, 22, 23? Holds wins over Arona and Nog?
Diesel says:
Diesel says:
Wanderlei fuckin' Silva couldn't even knock out Arona.
Diesel says:
WANDERLEI SILVA.
Diesel says:
That's scary.
i$e says:
His opponent is tough though.
Diesel says:
Machida is no slouch, that's for sure.
Diesel says:
His fighting style may not be that crowd pleasing, but hey, he wins.
i$e says:
He wins a lot. The thing I like about this fight is it's the fairly young UFC guy against the very young PRIDE guy. Machida has wins over Rich Franklin and BJ Penn. Sokoujou has wins over Arona and Nogueira. Thats four world class opponents between them, and it adds up to be the 'sleeper' on the card.
Diesel says:
That's intense.
Diesel says:
Plus I love how Soko is gonna really be tested, he's not given a slouch in his UFC debut, like say Cro was given in his with Sanchez.
i$e says:
I like it. Two different spectrums of the Light Heavyweight division on the same card.
Diesel says:
Yeah, who's gonna stick around and potentially regain his title sometime in Liddell vs. Silva? And who's gonna shine and prove he can be a future contender in Soko vs. Machida?
Diesel says:
Awesome card.
i$e says:
Got an exiting Lightweight fight on the card and a heavyweight slugfest.
Diesel says:
Diesel says:
See, this is where some of the positive of Dana buying out PRIDE shines. We're seeing all of these dream and really interesting matches, finally come together, with no strings attached to another company.
i$e says:
My only problem is it's a few years too late. I'd have let myself be put in hlaf guard by Couture to see Chuck/Wandy a few years ago. Same goes for CroCop.
Diesel says:
Better late than never though, I guess you could say.
i$e says:
Better than nothing, true.
Diesel says:
But in 'wrapping up' (loz christmas pun), any final comments?
i$e says:
Nothing much to add. This is going to be awesome. Whether you follow MMA closely or you've seen a few YouTube clips, but in the ffort, slap $40 down and watch this event. Watch it. I don't think you'll get many MMA experiences like what you'll feel just before Wanderlei and Chuck come out. Oh, Merry Christmas and a New Year, all that bollocks, and we'll be back in the new year with a 'Roundtable'.
Diesel says:
What he said, imagine me saying it, just with a lot of asian-ness.
Diesel says:
Oh, quick shout out to NCIH, btw. POST MORE IN THE MMA SECTION, PLZ.
i$e says:
AMPLine4Life plz.
Diesel says:
Both plz.
i$e says:
<3 The Dude.
Diesel says:
Dmac sux tho.
i$e says:
I agree.
i$e says:
Fuck you, Dmac.
Diesel says:
'Fuck you'
Diesel says:
Alright, well that's it. Have a good Christmas guys. Make sure to get MMA shit, rit.
