According to initial reports, Cherepanov collapsed on the bench after suffering a heart attack and was unable to be resuscitated. There was, apparently, no ambulance on hand at the rink at the time of Cherepanov's collapse as Omsk played Vityav Chekhov in the Moscow Region. Resuscitation efforts were conducted in the parking lot.

Jesus christ. This kid shouldn't be dead. Well, if the NHL was ever actually worried that the KHL was going to steal a lot of their players, they don't have to worry anymore.

They need a uniform opening night with every team playing, with games overseas the same day, during a slow night in main stream American sports. There always is a day with nothing on in the States around when the NHL starts but they do not take advantage.
They have just started marketing players which is smart but should have been done years ago. Star players and gambling are the way sports get big in North America imo.
Also the NHL needs to market more on a regional basis, advertisements that go over great in Canada and the North East will not work at all elsewhere in the States.
There needs to be more fighting like in the mid to late 90's, just because it peeks peoples interest to potentially tune in. Same with big open ice hits, they need more but only on skaters with puck possesion.
The game itself now has a good enough flow that it could catch on, if Bettman didn't try to squeeze a bit more money out of his cable deal, which resulted from going from ESPN which everyone has to VS. which is on what like extened cable or some shit.
edit: None, to very limited knowledge on the KHL can not really comment much.

Yeah. I'm keeping in mind that DiPietro didn't get the start today, but still, 7 goals just shouldn't happen. A lot of them could have been avoided.
And wow, that's a real shame about Cherepanov. Very upsetting to hear.

LOL @ the Isles didn't Mike Comrie lead you guys in scoring last year with like 55 points.
At least you have Rick DiPetro for another 12 years or so.

As good as he is he's going to get little to no support offensively, just like Toskala I'm sure (although Toronto's offense hasn't been that bad in two of the games). You guys will be in serious trouble if he gets hurt again, that's for sure. At least we both have John Tavares to play for.

Really sad to see that video. A young guy with a bunch of hockey left to play in his life and it all just ends like that. RIP Cherepanov.

Game two of regular season for Oilers tonight against the winless Ducks. Should be good game, always good atmosphere with us stealing Penner from them and all. Also Steve McIntyre shall be in line up so I would assume he shall be scraping with Parros a couple of times.
